my apartment is my studio. makes it a lot of fun to set things up. for my natural lighting, i sometimes wait for seasons or days. i have 2 very large west facing windows in a small apartment. during summer, i get intense light through them. in winter, i get what seems like twilight all day. if i want to use natural light, i have to wait for the hot seasons.

a lot of these, i am waiting until late at night, when there is no ambient light at all. then i start setting up the various lamps that i have to control my lighting. various homemade reflectors and filters and blocks. many tests and mirrors to see just where to place everything, to place myself.

i can make the apartment quite a mess.

i use various tripods. i have a small telescoping one that goes from 4" to 11". then a regular one. both with full adjustability in any and all directions and independant leg adjustment. then my really tall 'tripod', which is really a portable painting easel that i have rigged up with rods and bolts and wingnuts that allow my to get my camera about 8 feet off the ground with a fair range of angle adjustment.

then there are always the times that none of thm will work.... at which point i am proping the camera up on anything i can find, inside the apartment and out.

a lot of experimentation. but that is always fun.
